Strike the shepherd

Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.   But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.  Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.
Matthew 26:31-33

The leader takes all the heat when things don't go as planned and he also takes the credit when things go well. All it takes to distract or scatter a team or organisation is to strike the leader and the team members will scatter.
Jesus here referred to his crucifixion and the effect on his disciples. Peter was so sure he would not deny Jesus but he did. We cannot rely on our strength to serve God else we become self-righteous. Paul says he put no confidence in his flesh.

Don't take on any battle alone. Your flesh will fail you and their forces will overpower you. If you manage a team, manage the strengths and weaknesses of each member. Don't focus on only one. Don't be so strong-willed that you fail to depend on God and to be filled with the Holy Spirit. God knows our weaknesses and the Spirit intercedes for us.
