Fire

And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,

And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.

And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.

And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?

But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.

For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
Luke 9:51‭-‬56 KJV

Don't we all wish we had extra powers we can wield at the slightest provocation? Perhaps more people will fear and respect us. This was how James and John felt when they felt that the Samaritans  did not honour Jesus by receiving the messenger sent by Jesus. The Samaritans were considered as those who betrayed Jews by inter-marrying with non-Jews. James and John who are also called Boarneges meaning sons of thunder were very angry and wanted to call down fire on those Samaritans.

Thank God they asked Jesus for permission before going ahead. Jesus rebuked them because Jesus did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them. Some people are still calling fire on their enemies and anyone they consider as enemies. If Jesus did not allow them to call down fire, why should you call down fire on fellow men whom God wants to save? Do you know the Spirit you are made of?
