Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Matthew 19:27-28
What Peter was really asking was, Jesus, what about us who have lost everything to follow you, what do we stand to gain? In other words, does it make sense to lose everything just to follow you?
These questions will come up when you put in everything you've got. Jesus did not rebuke Peter but reassured him of the reward of serving God. There's surely a heavenly blessing. Jesus served and He is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Whether we have great wealth or not we must serve God with all our hearts. God rewards those who diligently seek him. The heavenly assembly is far better and we have nothing to lose. Whoever saves his life will lose it but whoever loses his for God's sake will save it.
