For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

Not every teaching even though backed by Scripture is sound doctrine. You have to be like the noble Bereans before you hold on to teachings that aim to deceive you. Even Satan quoted the Scripture to Jesus with the aim of deceiving him. The bible is for everyone to read and we can receive the Holy Spirit who will teach us.
The simple hearts are easily deceived by good words and fine speeches even when the content is not of God. Watch out for ambiguous stories as the intentions are to hold you captivated for their own belly. If you are confused about any teaching, ask questions and carry out further research. Most importantly pray for the veil to be removed as you seek understanding.
