When nothing works

How long wilt thou forget me, O Lord ? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?  How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?
Psalms 13:1-2 KJV

What do you do when things are not working for you? Why does it ever seem like you can never get it going for you no matter what you do. Why do you feel frustrated and angry with the world? You have been praying and nothing seems to work out.  You have been seeking a job for long and there's just no response from several applications. Perhaps you even get invited for interviews and you still couldn't get the job. Since you have been sacked from your last job, life has been a living hell. You struggle to feed or pay house rent.

You may even have sent proposals for your business ideas and nobody is interested. You have tried to run a business but you hit a financial brickwall and you are at the point of giving up. You have been looking for a wife or husband and yet you keep getting older and under pressure from friends and family. You have been trying to travel abroad to go and hustle bit have been denied visa several times. You have been trying to get admission into school and you just keep failing the exam. Nothing works and you're up at nights crying and at the same time asking, why me?

Why does God allow us to go through very tough and difficult circumstances even though we have faith? Cheer up, count it all joy when you go through trials because the trying of your faith works patience. Ha! Patience again? Yes, patience. You remain steadfast in prayer and praise and then you listen to the instructions from God and begin to act on them. Noah was told to build an ark where there was no water. Job was stripped of everything including his children. Joseph was sold into slavery by his own brothers. Abel was killed by his brother. Abraham was promised a son and a great nation. The Israelites faced a Red Sea as the enemies got closer. Everyone goes through tough times but we all come to God for wisdom and direction. We learn not to stick to long held beliefs that does not produce any fruit.

This is the moment to trust in God's mercy. When things don't go your way, don't wait till you hear the voice of a donkey. Retrace your steps to Jesus. Pray and seek counsel and get understanding. Read relevant books. Never, ever give up no matter how you feel. God is an ever present help in time of trouble.
