Levi son of Alphaeus is most likely Matthew the tax collector. He followed Jesus and he immediately resigned from his job. Why did he give up his job so easily to follow Jesus? He may have been thinking about it but never had the courage to do it. He must have known about Jesus to follow him.
Not everyone is required to quit his job to follow Jesus. You don't have to feel compelled to quit your job out of blind faith. Jesus called out to this tax officer because he knew he would follow him. Some will however, be called out of their jobs to follow Jesus. Following Jesus as an Apostle has its cost and it's reward. Be ready to follow him wherever he calls you.
