Open rebuke is better than secret love. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
Proverbs 27:5-6 KJV
Will you like it if you are openly rebuked? The truth is that open rebuke is better than secret love. Secret love is not genuine because it does not show concern. The reason for secret love is often not to loose a benefit derived from the relationship. There are many who argue for secret love against open rebuke hence the wise man tells us that the wounds of a friend is a sign of faithfulness but the kisses of an enemy is deceitful.
Only deceitful enemies will be afraid to tell you the truth even if it hurts you. They only plot your downfall by appearing to care when they should tell you the truth. Judas was a classic example. Even when rebuked openly at the table, he still said, Surely not I but he ended up betraying Jesus with a kiss. You may feel hurt if a friend rebukes you openly but you'll be glad afterwards.
