Seven Spheres of Influence

In 1975, Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade, and Loren Cunningham, founder of Youth With A Mission (YWAM), had lunch together in Colorado. God simultaneously gave each of these change agents a message to give to the other. During that same time frame Francis Schaeffer was given a similar message. That message was that if we are to impact any nation for Jesus Christ, then we would have to affect the seven spheres, or mountains of society that are the pillars of any society.

Arts and Entertainment should reflect the glory and majesty of our Creator. May we be instruments to celebrate His creativity in the arts, music, sports, fashion, entertainment, and every other way we celebrate and enjoy life.

And it came to pass when the priests came out of the Most Holy Place…and the Levites who were singers…stood at the east end of the altar, clothed in white linen, having cymbals, stringed instruments and harps, and with them one hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets- indeed it came to pass, when the trumpets and the singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord, and when they lifted up their voice with trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord saying; For He is good, For His mercy endures forever, that the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God (2 Chronicles 5:11-14).

Business should be viewed as a place to worship God through the area of our calling. May we worship You through our gifts, talents and resources to build Your Kingdom.

And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ (Col 3:23-25).

And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us. And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands (Ps 90:17).

Church:  God never gave man a religion, but an opportunity for an intimate relationship with his Creator. May we come to know His presence and power in each of our lives.
If any of you wants to be My follower, you must put aside your selfish ambition, shoulder your cross, and follow Me. -Matthew 16.24

Education should reflect the truth about God and man so that the truth shall make us free. May we seek and promote the true meaning of life through education. The "fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom," and wisdom is the goal of education. There can be no true wisdom that does not begin with a proper "fear of the Lord."

Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call understanding your kinsman. -Proverbs 7.4

Train up a child in the way that he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it  (Proverbs 22:6).

Family:  God formed them male and female in order to establish families to reflect His glory. May we restore Christ as the head of our families.

"Behold, I will send you Elijah, the prophet, before the great and dreadful day of the Lord, and he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest, I come and strike the earth with a curse" (Malachi 4:5-6).

Government: God gave man government to establish freedoms and boundaries. May we reflect His loving-kindness and righteous judgments in our government.

"For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder, and His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice. From that time and forever the zeal of the Lord will perform this" (Isaiah 9:6-7).

"When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice, but when a wicked man rules, the people groan" (Proverbs 29:2).
Media:   God communicated to man through a variety of ways. May we restore the ability to communicate truth and good news using His creative avenues.

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!" (Isaiah 52.7).

As cold water to a weary soul, so is good news from a far country (Proverbs 25:25).
